Private tour or group excursion?

The difference is simple: on a private tour the boat is yours alone. The skipper takes you and nobody else, we plan the route together when you book, and during the day it changes if you want it to: one more swim here, a longer stop there, lunch ashore or on board. On a group excursion the route is fixed and you share the boat with other people, which is why it costs less. If you're a couple who want some peace, a family with small children or a group of friends with their own ideas, go private. If you just want to see the coast on a budget, have a look at our group excursions.

Half day or full day

Our private tours last 4 or 8 hours. Four hours is enough to cover the stretch between Positano and Amalfi properly, with two or three swim stops: it suits you if you have other plans that day or children on board, who have had enough after a few hours in the sun. With 8 hours you go further: Capri, or Nerano and the tip of the Sorrento Peninsula, with time for a relaxed lunch at a seaside restaurant. If it's your first time on the Amalfi Coast and you only have one day on the water, take the full day: half a day goes by fast.

The routes people ask for most

The coast towards Amalfi. You pass under the bridge of the Furore fjord, a narrow gorge crossed by the coast road about 30 metres up: from the water it looks much higher. Then Conca dei Marini, with the Emerald Grotto, and Amalfi seen from the harbour. It's the classic Amalfi Coast boat tour.

Positano and Li Galli. Positano from the sea, houses stacked one above the other, is the photo everyone wants. A little further on are Li Galli, the three islets of the Sirens: you swim in water that is usually clearer than close to shore. We tell their story in our guide to Li Galli.

Nerano. You go past Positano to Marina del Cantone, the beach of Nerano, where in the early 1950s a beach trattoria came up with spaghetti alla Nerano, made with fried courgettes. Plenty of people choose this route for the lunch alone. On the way is the Bay of Ieranto, owned by FAI and part of the Punta Campanella Marine Protected Area: motorboats are not allowed in, so you see it from outside, and it's still lovely.

Capri. The longest day: Li Galli, Punta Campanella, then around the island with the Faraglioni and the grottoes. We explain how it works on the Capri boat trip page.

Already have an idea? Write to us with the form on this page: date, how many of you and what you'd like to see. We'll reply with a route and the right boat.

Which boat to choose

Private tours are designed for groups of 2 to 6, but if there are more of you it can be done: Gabry and Faraglione take up to 12 people. For a couple or a small family who want a cabin and a bathroom on board, Gagliotta and Lilù are a good fit; Pupatella is nimbler, and the RIB is the fastest, for people who want to cover ground and don't need comforts. All of them have a shower and a sound system. Photos and details of each are on our fleet page; if you can't decide, tell us how many you are and we'll suggest one.

What is included and what you pay separately

The tour includes the skipper, fuel, water, soft drinks and prosecco, towels and a shower on board, and explanations of the places in English too. If you're staying in Praiano we pick you up at no extra cost. Not included: grotto tickets (the Emerald Grotto and the Blue Grotto are paid on the spot), lunch at the restaurant, landing and harbour fees, and pick-up from other towns, which is arranged separately. If you'd like a hostess on board, that's available for a supplement. Snorkelling gear is available on request: just mention it when you book.

A few tips from people who go out every day

Start early: in the morning the sea is often calmer and the coves are less crowded. If you want lunch ashore, tell us when you book: we'll suggest a restaurant and reserve the table, because in summer the seaside ones fill up. If you get seasick, have a light breakfast and sit at the stern, looking at the horizon. Bring swimwear, a hat, sunscreen and some cash for the grottoes. If the sea is too rough or the boat has a problem, we move the trip to another day or refund you in full. We leave from the jetty at Marina di Praia: everything about our tours from there is on the boat tours from Praiano page.

Ready to book? Use the form below or give us a call: we'll tell you straight away what's available and which boat. The booking is confirmed once you pay the deposit or the full amount through the link we send you.
